Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA)
Project Name and Location
The PROTECT Program - throughout the Washington Metropolitan Area
Scope of Work
ORION was responsible for installing a very complex system that was the first Toxic, Industrial & Chemical detection system of its kind in the United States. The installation requirements included but were not limited to, working in confined environments, installing sensitive access control and fire alarm sensors and equipment, installing conduit to all equipment, pulling copper wire to the panel and connecting the panel to the fiber optic backbone. The PROTECT system was the first of its kind in that it allowed WMATA Operations Control Center (OCC) to monitor and respond to chemical exposure throughout the subway system. Hardware and Software support was designated Homeland Security Sensitive.
The ORION team was certified to install and maintain the chemical sensors used in the WMATA system under the PROTECT program. The ORION Team performed sensitive work in a tightly controlled, occupied facility on double shifts to complete the job within time and budget constraints.
